The microphones will be used to amplify the sound of the front ensemble: the section of students who play percussion instruments in the front of the marching band field. In the marching band world, these instruments are amplified for several reasons. Amplifying the front ensemble will help students learn the correct techniques of playing percussion. Traditionally, marching band front ensembles would have to play incorrectly in order to compensate for the volume of the brass and woodwind players behind them. Using these microphones teaches students how to develop good playing habits. Since the sound will be amplified, the percussion instruments will also last longer, because they will not be beaten as loud. The investment of microphones can save thousands over the course of several years.
