As a Title I school in an area that was recently named the most diverse neighborhood in the nation, our greatest strength comes from the diversity that each individual brings to the table. My students are funny and kind. They stick up for each other, celebrate each other, and understand what it means to come together. My students are determined to get their hands on instruments. When I played the violin for each of my classes they all wanted to know two things: "when can I play?" and "will you teach me?" Having access to real violins in a highest poverty school is huge! I see determination and self-control. I see confidence levels soaring. Still the best part about the violins is my students' excitement. Everyday in the hallway I hear: "Is today a violin day?" "Can I come and practice at recess?" "Look at my bow hand!" "When is our next concert?"
