The students are seeking a hot, cold, and room temperature water cooler dispenser to use in the classroom. They constantly ask for water and purchasing water bottles is very costly. The students brainstormed ideas and want to get a refillable water dispenser so they can walk to the corner store to fill up the water jugs for the classroom. This can teach them many skills, including; budgeting for the purchase, street safety to venture to the store, social skills for the transaction, responsibility, and independence. This adds to our curriculum of consumer math and community-based instruction. It also will enable them to add different items to their student store we are creating. The student store will include lunch and snack items they can sell to each other for minimal costs during breaks and lunch time to continue to work on money math/management and social skills. They can use the hot dispenser to make: cup of noodles, hot chocolate, and more.
