Books are an essential component for first graders who are learning to read and write. This project was designed to put books directly into the hands of my students. The books are diverse to meet the diverse needs of the students in my room. My students' vocabulary will increase as a result of having these books in our classroom. The selected texts were specifically chosen for their rich language. With your generous contribution, students will use these texts for close reading and as mentors for writing. Also, mentor sentences are a great way to integrate grammar into reading. These books will give students authentic practice with parts of speech, punctuation, and word choice.
