As seen in the photograph, I believe that students should not just sit at a traditional, hard plastic/metal desk and be forced to be still. That is just not natural for anybody, including adults. Students have a tendency to move and fidget while they work, and regular chairs and seating does not allow this. The balance ball provides a bouncy surface that engages movement as well as improves posture for a majority of students. When the students move, I want to ensure that they do so in a productive, non-disruptive way and still learn at the same time. The spiky seat cushions will be used for students who prefer to sit on the ground to do their learning. These tactile seats encourage movement by forcing the student to move constantly to maintain their posture and balance. It is also great for those kids who need help with sensory input and can act as a calming effect to those under stress. We all learn better if we are given choice and movement, and this is what my vision for my students encompasses.
