In my classroom I have spent the last two years starting to implement flexible seating options in my classroom. I have introduced items to my classroom and slowly my students and I have found out what works well and what needs improvements. I am learning from my students that they are more engaged in my class when they have the options and freedom to move within the room where their needs can be met. At time this may include working in a small group, or working alone in order to focus. Change is the end result of all true learning. Last year my students and I discussed new ways that interested us in our flexible options. I was able to borrow some of the materials from teachers within our building and we all agreed that they were the next items we needed in our class. This led me to my first Donors Choose project to get my class small sets of Surf desks that are portable writing surfaces that allow the students to have an elevated place to put their notebooks while they are sitting comfortably on the floor. The wobble stools wobble, but won't topple, allowing the students to safely move around while they work without disturbing the other students. This will be very useful during small group work times.
