I joined an inner city school to help teach children they have options in the world, and to let them know people care. I have been teaching for over 10 years and every year I have students who struggle with reading and some do not like science. An average classroom consists of all nationalities, with the majority African American, Asian, and Hispanic ethnicities. Many of my Hispanic students are learning English at the same time they are learning the 6th grade curriculum. In English, I pull small groups, to work on various skills of phonics and comprehension. My goal as a teacher, is to find as many ways as possible to entice my students to explore the world, through whatever way they choose. My hope is they use what I teach them in English. I have found if you find something students become excited about, they will do whatever they need to enjoy it.
