Think back to middle school math. Waking in that room and seeing your teacher at the front with desks in a row facing the chalkboard. The bright institutional feel of the room. The worksheets and work books sitting to the side just waiting for your #2 pencil. Math is intimidating already. Why not mix things up and make it fun and comfortable for students? I want to have games for my students to learn with. Games encourage students to think about math in ways that they can use it in the real world. Rolling dice to complete equations gives them the ability to have random choices of numbers. Alternative seating to get more comfortable and allow for fidgeting so that they are able to learn in an environment that they want to be in. I want my students to want to be in my room. They may now want to do math, but they want to be there.
