My students enter my room each day from all types of economic backgrounds, carrying along with them their own baggage, worries, personalities, moods, and lights of happiness. They are in their primal teenage years which are characteristic of irrational behavior and rebellion. At the same time, they are at the tender and delicate age of extreme insecurity and desire to please their peers. They are 8th graders living in the small town of Stuttgart, Arkansas. My goal, as a teacher, is to make certain that I provide a place for them to thrive and feel IMPORTANT. I think about everything - from the way I greet them at the door, to the availability of books and the scent that welcomes their noses as they enter my room. These students will test the NERVE, but they also deserve and need all the love and effort I can give them. I wish you could meet each one of them to see for yourself.
