As a science teacher I feel it is my responsibility to encourage and engage young minds in the STEM subjects(science, technology, engineering and mathematics). The challenge we face is having activities that allow them to "do" science not just be told what it is. Too often when freshmen come to my class many of them come with the mid set that they either don't like science or aren't any good at it. I have never encountered a lab that is more engaging and effective at changing that mindset. They see the glowing bacteria that they engineered but I see students whose curiosity in science is sparked and confidence in their abilities increased dramatically.
