School Nursing is more than ice packs & Band-Aids. We serve a diverse community which allows us to bring all of our clinical background & skill into play. Some students may only ever see me the Nurse & no other Health Professional. Being able to educate on chronic diseases, splinting a fracture, showing kindness in the way we care. That is the heart of Nursing. Having the tools/supplies needed in the Clinic is critical to being able to ensure that a student is healthy & can thrive throughout their day. Students realize that Nurses are perhaps the most honest person they meet. We introduce topics, ask about their health and do an assessment faster then they can send a tweet. Getting those nuggets from a conversation helps uncover how serious an illness is or if it just anxiety or boredom, or a potential problem ahead. We advocate for the safety and wellbeing of each & every child. Nurses never stop caring.
