I am lucky to be a special education teacher to a diverse group of creative and hardworking 5th and 6th graders at a Title 1 public school in Chicago. My students all struggle with a variety of literacy skills, and currently read well below grade level, ranging from Kindergarten to 3rd grade. Building a strong foundation of literacy skills at the elementary level is a significant predictor of future academic success, and my projects aim to provide the knowledge and instructional resources needed to help close the gap so my students can be stronger, more independent readers.

About my class
