Our classroom is a safe space. Students share, "our minds run in circles all day." In response, we we begin each lesson with a breathing exercise giving everyone a chance to reset. We are finding peace in ourselves and our community. We pause at transitional points in our lessons when students feel that their " brains are going all over the place and anxiety needs to release its hold." We gently ring a bell and unplug from our laptops for 60 seconds to clear our minds, to focus, to enhance decision-making for best behavioral choices in preparing for the task ahead. But we are loosing time. Laptops show blue screens, are missing keys, fail to boot up and shut down at random. This is stress full. We do our part to be mindfully present and self | other aware. We are asking for equal access to education. Can we start our lesson on time together? Please do not have us compete for resources in our classroom.
