I am a first year teacher. My classroom does not have any books. Due to covid-19, our libraries are still closed. My students would benefit greatly from having books that peak their interest and that they can read. I have selected books about diversity and inclusion because when students learn about each other's culture, they are able to relate to each other better. Getting them engaged with books that are colorful and have stories they can relate to will help them to become better readers. As they read, they will become more culturally responsive. Our future is in the hands of these little ones. It is important to learn about each other, about race, diversity, and inclusion at this young age. Learning to relate to each other will help students become more aware about feelings and how they impact others. Great readers become great leaders!
