These materials will be going to my literature circle library. These books will really allow my students to grow more in their reading and find even more enjoyment in reading.
Instead of reading part of a story in a basil book, students will be reading authentic literature. They will be able to independently read chapters of their story on pillows and carpets. Students will write their comments and connections on post it notes. These post it notes will be used during their Literature Circle meetings where they share what they thought while they were reading.
Using real literature to teach reading skills and strategies is more meaningful than short parts of stories.
My students will be able to conduct meaningful book discussions from their reading. Each student will have a different activity that must be done before the literature circle meeting where they will discuss things that happened and question other group members about the book.
My students will be able to use the reading strategies and skills they have learned to help their comprehension of their selected book.
