The materials that I chose for my project are books that are companions to lessons that teach social emotional learning, social skills, and character education in the classroom. Some of the skills that students will learn include: choosing kindness, being independent problem solvers, how to handle bad days like superheroes, and how to respect each other in the classroom. Without a classroom community of well-managed, kind, and respectful learners, it is hard to effectively teach all of the academic skills needed for students to progress in their education. Teaching social skills and character education in the classroom will provide students with strategies and coping skills needed in order to succeed in both social and educational settings.
