My classroom is made up of 6 amazing students with moderate to severe developmental disabilities. There are five teacher assistants in my classroom to help keep our students on track and provide them with the support they need to be successful. Our school focuses on building independence and functional communication skills with our students in order to help them be successful in their community when they graduate at age 21. My students benefit from visual supports, adaptive technology, modeling, and hands-on activities. My students also require behavioral interventions on a regular basis which allows them to be available to instruction. We use individual picture schedules, individual & classroom wide reinforcement systems, sensory tools, and positive behavioral supports to help our students be as successful as possible. My students overcome obstacles each day and it is empowering to see them grow and learn.
