Students with Autism require lifeskills training for independent living and job training. It is beneficial to provide them with as close to real life activities as possible. We do a combination of hands on activities, visual (videos), worksheets and workbooks. Our discussions range from paying bills, pay check details to hobbies and party planning. Our lifeskills lessons include making simple meals, snacks, cleaning up after meals, shopping for needed items for meals. We extend our physical health by doing yoga and meditation activities. These activities also help with self regulation, focus and sensory concerns. There are so many activities that can assist with sensory regulation, we make our own sensory tools. We play board games assist in forming and cultivating critical thinking skills and socialization skills. Our needs require many items that are tangible and need to be replenished often.
