Award winning and best selling books like "Ruby Holler" and "The Sign of the Beaver" or "Aesop's Fables" are some of the best to this grade level and age of students. These books have won medals, honors, and have been selling quicker than production companies can ship them! These books will help my students to understand different aspects of English Language and Literature. For example, excerpts from "The Cay" can be transcribed from Gullah to English and an entire week-long focus can be executed in English grammar to connect. Students can use precepts from "Wonder" to not only have a new understanding of unconditional love and not-judging but they can also use story elements such as point of view, flashbacks and foreshadowing, as examples to understand or explain in the classroom. Students who read these few books from the classroom library will not only gain knowledge and understanding through education, but they will learn about different cultures, ways of life, and learn some valuable lessons! In the end, the books will help students to continue with their love of reading.
