My students enter into the college classroom as freshmen in high school. By the time that they are juniors and seniors, they are nearly exclusively enrolled in college classes. As their underclassmen teachers, we are tasked with ensuring they are at a collegiate level much earlier than traditional students. To this end, I teach a historical writing seminar that helps students prepare for the college-level writing in social studies courses that professors will expect of them. The technology will be housed in my classroom to be utilized by students who do not have personal devices. Because over half of my students are low socioeconomic, they do not have the infrastructure at home to level their educational playing field. I endeavor to create an environment in my classroom that helps to eliminate some of the academic barriers for these students, in an effort to help ensure their academic success.
