This text I would like to purchase is required of students enrolled in the composition course at the local community college. My students are high school seniors. They are not used to having to purchase textbooks for school. The text--The Little Seagull--includes grammar rules and guidelines for both MLA format and APA format. My students desperately need this style guide to assist with writing research papers in both styles.
Purchasing this text is a struggle for my students. Since our class is held on our high school campus, 49 miles away from the community college bookstore, which closes at 5:30 p.m., my students can rarely find the time to buy the book. It is also an extra expense students are not expecting as they enter the dual credit classroom and their last year of high school. Many families encourage students to share, download illegal copies, or simply go without.
Having copies of this required text for our composition class would benefit my students' writing. Their essays would gain a level of sophistication lacking now because of an absence of proper resources, and they would learn the skill of consulting a resource to guide their composition writing.
