We pride having youth voice and choice in our program. Similar to a college experience, our students get to create their own afterschool schedules as they choose what activities they participate in each week. One of the components they get to choose from is college and career readiness where we offer a variety of activities such as When I Grow Up, Robotics, Lil Entrepreneurs, Cooking, and our newest addition--Little Doctors. Little Doctors brings medicine, science, and the importance of health to students in an entertaining, exciting, and fun way. Students will learn and have fun as they dress up like doctors, learn how to use instruments doctors use, and understand how the body works! Some of the lessons students will participate in include but are not limited to first aid, the heart, the brain, the lungs, digestion, learning to suture and tie knots like surgeons, and casting broken bones. At our End of Year showcase, the students will get to set up a pretend clinic and show the skills they have learned all school year to their families, friends, and school community to see. They will also get to participate in the school's Health Fair. By having these materials for our Little Doctors class, the students will get real life experiences of the medical field and hopefully seek to pursue this field as they continue their educational journey. This activity also highlights the importance of healthy eating and exercise. We aspire to motivate and promote higher learning and have found that it starts at an early age.
