My goal is to cultivate lovers of reading through the use of a highly engaging multicultural text. This novel will address many cultural issues and will provide my students with a unique reading and learning experience and will help them to become critically literate. Additionally, this novel will allow students to consider the social dynamics of communities including relationships among races, within races, between teachers and students, law enforcement and between themselves and adults. Students will build an understanding of multicultural literature and the themes within, and be able to build a better understanding of differing viewpoints and perspectives of others.
