The materials and supplies that I am requesting are for the Makerspace being developed in our Media Center. This new Makerspace will provide new opportunities for our students to not only meet the required learning objectives through a more hands-on and interdisciplinary approach, but it will open their minds to new possibilities and careers they had not previously considered to move them beyond current circumstances and propel them into a bright, new future. The materials donated for our Makerspace will allow our students to engage in personalized learning by exploring their own interest physically and virtually through various projects.
Our Makerspace will turn knowledge into action. The plan is to create various stations where students will discover new ways of learning by taking a risk and making mistakes when developing products from Makerspace projects. When students learn through mistakes this encourages a growth mindset, helps to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills. These stations will include a littleBits station where students will use modular electronics to invent, a LEGO station where students can bring STEM concepts to life, a Makey-Makey station where students can turn any object into a game controller.
It is my hope that the materials received for our Makerspace through the process of designing, making, and sharing, will help our students develop self-confidence and self-awareness. Which will prepare them for the 21st-century careers they will embark on.
