This amazing project will allow my students to create a positive classroom community, where students learn and grow both socially and academically. From the first day of school, I explain to students that we are a team and family. We need to work together, and help each other. This community carpet will give my students a specific meeting place to start the day, a special spot to sit during whole group instruction, and a place to meet, discuss, share and reflect on what we learned for the day. Studies show that building a strong classroom community fills students need for a sense of belonging, because they know they can both contribute to the community's success and benefit from its rewards. Also it provides a way for all students to be involved while forming and maintaining positive relationships. In addition, a strong classroom community teaches students social skills and the importance of collaboration, and sense of responsibility towards others. My current carpet has seen better days. I bought it used and after many years (and accidents); it is falling apart. By funding this project, you are providing us with a meeting spot and helping us build a strong, amazing classroom community. Thank You! Class of 2027
