Hello and Welcome! The students in my Pre-K Autism classroom come to me with a variety of needs, including social and communication needs. Difficulties in relating to and interacting with others affect student success inside and outside of the classroom. Sensory regulation affects a child's ability to perceive and participate in their world, and to learn as typical children do. To support my students in learning and exploring, it is critical to provide them with a variety of non-traditional experiences to help them calm, focus, and regulate their bodies in space. Once these needs are addressed, students who could not sit for more than one minute are able to participate in small group learning activities and community circle. These strategies also increase student independence. Our school, like most, is heavily focused on academics, and it is hard to find resources for non-traditional student support materials
