Middle schoolers are learning to make good choices. Exercising choice is a cornerstone in our class. One example is that students are sometimes given the chance to choose work time seating. One of the most sought after areas of my room is an ornate rug I brought in from home. The area has a small bookshelf with the newest additions to our classroom library, a potted plant for fresh air, green lights strung around for ambient lighting, and a few pillows I picked up on sale. It is simple, but students clamor for the opportunity to sit in this space. I need your help to make this a functional, yet comfortable workspace. Students will flop against a large armed pillow during independent reading. Lap desks will be a welcome tool to collaborate with a partner on their Chromebooks. Both pillows and desks will support them when they huddle for small group discussions.
