Distractions are inevitable in any classroom. My class of second graders work hard to stay focused despite noises from the rattling classroom air vent, the neighborhood, the hallway, the phone calls from the office, and their classmates' interruptions. One distraction students shouldn't have to deal with are tables that wiggle, jiggle, and rock while they write, erase, and pass supplies to each other. The four large tables that are currently in my room are replacements for an even worse group of tables I had previously. Recently the School District got rid of surplus furniture without offering it first to schools (possibly because all of it was too old and in disrepair). After waiting four years for tables that hard working students deserve, I've decided to come to you in the community for help. I strive to provide an environment in which my students are given the resources and support they need to be successful and where they are encouraged to reach their goals. Giving them work spaces that respect their hard work is my goal.
