Part of teaching math and reading is to make the connection with real life experiences. Among many other applications, I have used Nearpod lessons with my students. This program is a great educational tool. One of the many uses of this program is their 360 degree virtual field trip. Another benefit of the iPad mini, which is great for a first grader, is the speech-to-text feature. Many first graders are unable to read text, nor write as much as they could, due to their limited reading and writing vocabulary. Using this feature would give sudents a greater opportunity to express themselves within their writing. There are many apps which give the students opportunities to read books online, as well as practice their math and reading skills. After missing days of school due to Hurricane Harvey, many students are behind in their learning and using programs on the iPad mini's could help them with their missing links.
