The greatest thrill for me as a teacher is when my students take the reins and teach each other. I am always seeking opportunities for my students to engage the material, and each other, with the authentic passion that come from inquiry. The greatest job as a teacher is to know when to get out of the way when that passion ignites. The greatest sound I hear as a mathematics teacher is that long, drawn out "Oohhh" that a student makes when understanding is achieved. The thrill of understanding is almost always accompanied by an urge to share with others what they just discovered. When that takes off, nothing compares. I am privileged to work with a group of scholars at Girls Prep who have set their sights on the highest level of achievement for themselves. The spirit of sisterhood thrives in our building with the resourcefulness and creativity our girls show in finding ways to support one another in their learning.
