For our class, a lot of time is spent together at the rug. We begin our mornings there with our morning meeting and we do the calendar, talk about the weather, have group lessons, take naps, regroup, and read books every day at the rug. The rug is the physical core of our classroom. The carpet we have now is small and we are very cramped. It is hard for small children to keep their hands to themselves when they are already physically touching the other child next to them. Having a larger rug would give each child more space to sit comfortably.
