Rudine Sims Bishop once said "books should be mirrors, windows, and sliding glass doors". My goal is to create a classroom library in order to give children access to a diverse set of high interest books. In my classroom, students are able to choose books to engage them in a reading. A majority of the books I have chosen, Uglies, Pretty Little Liars, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian and Long Way Down are books that have been requested by students. When my students choose their independent reading book, they are able to apply skills taught in class to their book. My students are eager to read, but have no access to a school library.
