The students in my classroom are very active and love to use technology. Students are highly engaged when songs and learning videos are presented as a part of my lesson. Technology has become a great asset to their learning. The demographics of my classroom consists of 89% African American students, 5% mixed, 5% Hispanic, and 1% Indian. Students come into Kindergarten not knowing any letters or letter sounds and have difficulty with phonemic awareness skills. By introducing a variety of learning strategies, they began to learn essential reading skills needed for 1st grade very quickly. Technology, music and movement have been a great attribute in encouraging and helping my students to master Kindergarten standards. Students are expected to use phonemic awareness, phonics skills, word chunking, and sight words to help them become fluent readers with good comprehension by the end of Kindergarten.
