These materials will be used in the classrooms for social skills lessons. Books like The Bad Seed, I Can't Believe You Said that!, Interrupting Chicken and several others will help encourage students to use their manners and show them how poor behavior often leads to not having friends. Additionally, books like The Good Egg, Tess the Tin that Wanted to Rock, The Invisible Scribble, and others on my list will remind students how important it is to accept others the way they are and not worry about trying to change themselves so others will like them. For a child, failing socially can be more detrimental and have longer lasting consequences than failing a test in math, reading or science. The book, Social Skills Activities for Kids: 50 Fun Exercises for Making Friends, Talking and Listening, and Understanding Social Rules will support me in teaching the students how to interact in a manner that will assist them in creating and maintaining positive relationships with others. Everyone needs social skills in order to interact appropriately with others in our environment. We all want others to like us and need to have a place where we belong.
