Google Cardboard (paired with an app downloaded on smartphones) will give my students the ability to explore ancient lands, battlefields, exotic places and much more through virtual reality. Teaching history can be a little intangible at times especially ancient history. Students will be able to pair this system with YouTube 360 videos and be able to look around and experience places faraway. With these videos, I will be able to get students to a more comprehensive understanding of how geography impacts civilizations, how battles were fought and won, what cities looked like in ancient times and so much more. They can feel like the ancient world is right in front of them and not just a fantasy land that Ms. Snyder is talking about. VR will allow students to step into those worlds and experience history up close and personal.
