If you were to look up the word “make” in a thesaurus, you would see a plethora of synonyms like: create, cause, assemble, manufacture, achieve, invent, generate, produce, craft, build, or construct. The is exactly what happens within a Makerspace. Stations mix all aspects of STEAM learning - Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math - and sprinkles it with imagination so students can explore all of their, “what if’s.” As we pay attention to the Maker Movement, we have discovered that having Makerspaces with design elements would be the perfect catalyst for developing problem solving skills with our 21st century learners. Within the station, students find task cards that provide brain push-ups and allows them to explore possible projects that interested them. Students will be encouraged to plan by drawing pictures of their ideas or making lists of supplies they will require, building prototypes, and creating finished projects that can be shared with the school community. Makerspaces become real-world inspired motivation to learn more, delve into research, and to track down primary source interviews from those that are “in the know.” Please help our students join the exhilarating Maker Movement!
