Located in the inner city at a high poverty middle school, my classroom is special in so many ways. Our school is in an area where most students are learning English, live in poverty, and in addition, my students all have multiple disabilities as well. This means that they not only struggle with academics, but also with vision, hearing, walking, and even basic communication. From tragic accidents as a young child to incurable genetic disorders, my students are dependent on us for all of their basic needs and care - a job that is not taken lightly by any of the staff in our classroom. Our classroom is always in motion as we work to help our students with multiple special needs find ways to communicate, participate in lessons, and be an active part of the school community. Nothing is taken for granted in our classroom, and we do whatever it takes to make sure our students have the best education possible!
