I work with kindergarteners in a Title I school which has a 94% poverty rate. Most students live with grandma and grandpa or come from single-parent homes. My kindergarteners are also ELL (English Language Learner) students with the school being more than 70% Hispanic. Due to that percent being so high, I use lots of anchor charts for visual purposes, so having an easel can allow me to create these visuals with them, rather than sitting at a table that no one can see. If they see it being modeled, they may become eager to try it. If they begin to try, then we know we’re doing something right. Adding seat sacks to the classroom will allow my students to have easy access to all their materials right from their seat. Less walking makes for more teaching and learning.
