My second grade students love to read and learn from their reading. I promote all types of reading in my classroom each day. The students use a workshop style of literacy learning, which is a great way to help all types of learners. Being engaged in reading, reading fiction and nonfiction texts, and choosing just-right-books are essential to the learning of the students in my classroom. Writing is a big part of our literacy learning, as well. My students struggle with how to keep their writing neat and organized. This would be the perfect solution to this ongoing issue with younger students. It will also give students ownership of their materials and writing projects. We are in a school that is limited on spending money, as are most in today's economy, but my students are excited to read. My students not only read books, but write and reflect on what they have read and learned. Reading is a "way of life" in my classroom.
