There is a major focus in our school on reading. In order to promote a love of reading in our classroom, we need books that my high school students will want to read. I took a survey of my students and found that there was a high demand for graphic novels and manga, aswell as an interest to learn more about topics of study in history that they had been learning about such as the Holocaust and boxer rebellion. Students who read graphic novels begin to see reading as fun and will start to read more for enjoyment, and not just because they are told to. Graphic novels are a way to increase reading skills for reluctant readers as well as help them understand Shakespeare in their English classes. My students will love getting their hands on all of these books.
