Help me give Marine Bio students a dynamic hands-on field research trip as real scientists! The maiden voyage destination will be to Colombia, a country with the largest marine biosphere on the planet, the third longest coral reef, an astonishing list of approximately 450 mammals,  the most bird species of any country on earth (almost 1900).  In short, Colombia unquestionably contains the greatest biodiversity within its borders by area on the planet. Students will use this research to educate NYC and the school community about the ecosystem and measures they can take to help the environment they live in. Students at my school are passionate about environmental issues and in an era of climate threat to the world's oceans, and marine life, want to save the planet.By traveling to Tayrona Park they will have a true scientific adventure in the natural world. The very fact of this trip has the students working harder than ever. They are raising money by selling cakes and cookies and other food. They designed and are selling a T-shirt to raise funds. They are doing much of the organizational work. Parents are doing the planning of the trip (and a no-frills,rugged trip it is) to keep costs minimal. The kids are building up swimming skills with weekly classes and taking a 'snorkeling seminar." They are learning Spanish on their own time, at lunch. They are doing a group fitness challenge to prepare for the strenuous hikes we will undertake along this water wilderness. Many students cannot afford this trip, but with your help, we can support them and offer them a rich cultural and history immersion along with the scientific education that will leave an imprint upon them forever!
