My students need dissecting specimens. This hands-on experience will bring to life the biological sciences and potentially lead students to a profession in a life science. With the teaching of the new science standards, it can be difficult to give students the hands-on experiences of dissection that may give them an insight into a possible future career in STEM industries. Without this experience, students may not see that they have the ability to work in the field of science. These hands-on projects of dissecting frogs, crayfish, and earthworms will also help make abstract learning more concrete. Being able to dissect these specimens will help to expose students to something that closely resembles our anatomy in a simple concise experience that truly brings the life sciences to life.
