These small group materials will help my students build their vocabulary and phonemic awareness skills. There has been research that shows a correlation between being a successful reader by grade three and students who go into kindergarten knowing how to recognize rhyming words, alliteration, syllables, letter sounds, etc. Having these simple skills going into Kindergarten can help give my students the step up they need to help them be successful readers! These materials are developmentally appropriate for my students because they use visuals along with manipulatives, can be adapted to fit all learning levels, and are presented in a way that keeps students engaged. These materials also help build self confidence in my students because they can be used as a teacher directed activity or an independent learning activity, making my students responsible for their learning!
