I am greeted eagerly each day with hugs and smiles from my kindergarten students as they walk into class from the playground. They tell me stories, share what they are going to write about that day, and show their genuine love of school. My young students are little sponges ready to soak up the world of reading. Our Title 1 school serves 340 students from all over the world. This year, 25 different languages are spoken by the families of our school. As a Title 1 school, we are one of the few schools that offer full day Kindergarten, drawing students and families from all over the district. Our school is rich in diversity that inspires us to reach across socioeconomic and ethnic barriers, recognizing our sameness and celebrating our differences. To support this, one of our school-wide goals is to promote a love of reading in ALL our students, regardless of reading ability and language spoken. For this I need to update the books in my students' independent book boxes.
