My Gifted and Talented students in my English classes have a dream this semester of stepping up their visual arts game! Their vision goes beyond simply stringing together some random video clips online, but rather they want to create and produce an original cinematic accompaniment to their novel readings, Lord of the Flies, for example! My classes consist of students who build guitars from scratch, are former Rubik's cube champions, and are singer/songwriters! Their passion project for this semester is to produce professional-quality cinematic short films based on their novel readings. First on the list is a recreation of Lord of the Flies accompanied by student-narrated passages from the book. I have a good deal of experience with video editing programs, but we lack the Panasonic - LUMIX GH5 Photo Digital Camera and wide zoom lens equipment to make complex productions that go beyond typical schoolwork, and it is this type of challenge that these gifted learners need to push their creative talents to the limit!
