Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best. During independent work times they will be able to choose a location in the classroom that works for them. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a choice in their seating. They almost always make good choices about where they sit, are more engaged, and get more work completed than when they are just sitting at their desk.
The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices. I have chosen two different types of wobble stools that are adjustable and will allow students to sit at desk/higher tables that will allow some movement. This means a higher level of attention, focus, and retention for each and every student. These will be extremely beneficial for some students that just need to get the wiggles out. I would also like to supply my classroom with two different types balance discs. These discs will enable my students to work on postural training while seated, or balance activities in seated or standing positions. They will provide a tactile calming effect. Ideal for little bottoms who require dynamic seated activities. The balance boards will allow my students to stand and wiggle when needed. Scoop rockers are great for kids to relax in while reading during quiet time. And lastly, fidget feet bands for the bottom of normal chairs that will promote a sense of calm, reduce stress/anxiety and will help increase focus/attention. I have seen how choice can positively affect my students work and demeanor.
