The generation I am teaching understands US History better when their notes/assignments are done in color. I have been doing interactive notebooks since 1998 and I have seen how color organizes students' thinking. The system is also used as a tool for organization especially when I teach from the founding of the 13 Colonies to Post Reconstruction. Students seem to grasp learning a lot quicker which allows students to increase the rigor needed to grasp an understanding of the first half of of US History which is the foundation for the rest of US History. Adding color to a "bland" subject, as some of my students often refer US History to, will create students who will become responsible citizens.
