I am a 5th grade special education teacher. The students I teach need material that is current and of interest to them. In working with these students, I see that they struggle with nonfiction material. The school is in a rural community where we have a high population of single parent households, free and reduced lunch and students with a disability. The "real life" topics these children see and live with everyday isn't what a young child should be growing up with. I want to expand their knowledge and horizon about what life outside their rural community has to offer them.

About my class
