My classroom is full of energetic and eager kindergartners. They love story time and being able to look at books in our classroom library. My students attend a Title 1 charter school in the city of Atlanta, where an emphasis is put on science, technology, engineering, art, and math. The 5 year olds in my classroom love technology and being able to manipulate it themselves. They love to show each other (and me!) how they can move from one activity to another on our computers and SmartBoards. After learning how to move about the Kindles on their own, I will have my students listen to stories using the text-to-talk feature. Once they have listened to the story, they will have to recommend that story to one of the other students in our class. We will have our book club meet once a week, after each child has had an opportunity to move through the listening/reading center.
