My students live in a small, rural, farming community. There is not a lot of diversity in their community and in the past, the Spanish program has not been valued as it should be. The students often don't see a need for learning Spanish but each day, I can see their eyes opening to the possibilities that being bilingual presents. My students age from 10 to 18. They all know each other because the school and community are so small. Their confidence in Spanish is growing. They are often intimidated by reading tasks, so having books in Spanish be an integral part of our classroom routine would help them immensely.
